During the last 30 years, the first ten as a private and public school teacher, and for the last twenty years as a business consultant and certified Life Coach, I have enjoyed many hours working with and coaching teens, collegiates and adults
As the Organization Development Consultant for Walt Disney World, Magic Kingdom, I would walk downstairs from my office onto Main Street to watch the children and their families enjoy the afternoon 3 o'clock parade. I knew my work at Disney was helping to bring success when I saw the wonder and excitement on their faces. Some little ones were raised high on their dad's shoulders, others standing with their family just to get a better view of the magical parade that passed before them. I also knew that living a life we are really passionate about would bring that kind of happiness and satisfaction every day into each of our lives.
The trick was taking the wonder and fun of exploring this magical world of "being ourselves" into the practical real world of our lives. That is what the DOORKNOB career courses, discovery books, leader's guides and personal coaching are all about!
Over the years, while working at the senior levels of a business, I was provided the opportunity to take many training courses (most of them on the soft skill subjects) as part of my employment hours to ensure I had the professional behaviors and skills necessary to bring success for each company I worked for or served as a consultant. In time, I realized this type of training was equally important for the entry-level to mid-level employee, just beginning their careers. YET, there were very few soft skills training courses available for those important employees, which make up the majority of a company’s workforce. “That’s odd”, I thought, but due to the high cost and time it takes to do the training, I understood the situation.
Fast forward to 2016… creating and designing career building soft skills courses, seemed mandatory for me, as I realized I had the experience and skills to create urgently needed, short-duration, in-depth courses that could enhance the lives and careers of many people. The success of these four career courses is based on my former corporate consulting work and of publishing many life purpose discovery books, that I have done over the past thirty years. And, on the urgent need for employees, the underemployed and unemployed, to be able to access this type of course and show certificated evidence of this soft skills training.
The foundation of the career courses goes back to the book I published, in 2012, that was written for teens and young adults between the ages of 11-21. That book, Your Key Your Door (YKYD), is a step-by-step discovery guide that asks powerful questions that aid students in self-discovery and building habits that put youth on the path that is right for them, both in career choices and their personal lives.
Principals report that students learn information in school, and when using the YKYD book, students learn what to do with this information in a way that fits "who they are". This transforms that information into knowledge, useful for the student on which to build a fulfilling life. These are critically important years in life and many life path decisions are made during this time.
10 Easy Keys to Unlocking Kids’ Passion and Purpose book for adults gives parents and teachers some simple techniques to connect deeply with children, ages 4-21, by observing and asking simple questions that reveal the child’s true nature… thus, making parenting and teaching so much easier and successful.
Over the years of teaching, consulting and life coaching, I have gained the experience necessary to write the career courses and this series of life purpose books.
